$1,825,000 raised for the hospital
MONTREAL, Sept. 9, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The 14th Golf Classic of the Fondation du Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) was held yesterday, September 8, at the Club Laval-sur-le-Lac where nearly 250 golfers and philanthropists were present. This charity tournament, one of the most prestigious in Canadian health circles, enabled the Fondation to raise $1,825,000 and profits will be contributed in their entirety to the CHUM in order to provide patients with the best of care.
Each year, the Classic brings together members from the business and medical communities. "It's an honour to see first-hand the generosity of our colleagues and to realize that they are always on tap year after year, ready to give us their support," affirmed the co-presidents of the Classic, Marie-Berthe Des Groseillers, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of BMTC Group Inc. and President of Brault & Martineau Foundation and Dr. Guy Leclerc, cardiologist at the CHUM and president of AccelLab.
The Fondation has also been glad to count on the participation of certain members of the Cabinet for its capital campaign Giving Ourselves the Best in Health Care and its loyal volunteer spokesperson, Yvon Deschamps, present to show his support alongside his wife Judi Richards.
"The Classic makes possible the raising of substantial funds which support continued research, education and the purchase of equipment essential to the development of the phase 2 of the new CHUM project, that will welcome its first patients in 2016, in an environment on the cutting edge of technology," declared Dr. Jacques Turgeon, Chief Executive Officer of the CHUM.
From its beginnings, the Classic has raised some $20 M for CHUM patients. "None of all that would have been possible without the backing of our faithful donors and sponsors. I want to mention also Dr. Leclerc's 10 years as co-president of our tournament and I am grateful for his tireless support which has contributed since 2005 to the success of the Classic," stated the President and Chief Executive Officer for the Fondation du CHUM, Ékram Antoine Rabbat.
Mr. Rabbat and the Fondation du CHUM express their thanks to the sponsors of the 14th Golf Classic: Abbott Vascular, Brault & Martineau, the CHUM's Centre cardiovasculaire and Medtronic Canada.
