The 2012 Ruth Goldbloom Ladies Golf Classic raises $90,000 for Kids Help Phone
HALIFAX, Sept. 13, 2012 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, September 11, $90,000 was raised in support of Kids Help Phone at the third annual Ruth Goldbloom Ladies Golf Classic, presented by BMO Bank of Montreal.
Held at the beautiful Glen Arbour Golf club, the event posthumously honoured the many contributions of Ruth Goldbloom, a celebrated and outstanding Nova Scotian and Canadian whose lifelong commitment to charitable work is today benefitting kids, teens and young adults across the country. Ruth Goldbloom contributed to a number of community organizations throughout her charitable career; in 2010, Ruth Goldbloom lent her support to Kids Help Phone when she endorsed the Kids Help Phone golf tournament in Halifax, which became known as the Ruth Goldbloom Ladies Golf Classic. With Mrs. Goldbloom's help, the tournament has since raised close to $250,000 for Kids Help Phone. By ensuring the kids, teens and young adults in Nova Scotia, and in the rest of Canada, continue having access to Canada's leading free, anonymous and confidential online and phone counselling, information and resources service, day or night, 365 days a year, in English and in French, the money raised during the Ruth Goldbloom Ladies Golf Classic will support strong, spirited and confident kids who in turn will contribute to strong, spirited and confident communities!
"I'd like to acknowledge how much Ruth is missed by all of us, how saddened we are to lose her, and how grateful we are to have known her." says Sharon Wood, President and CEO, Kids Help Phone. "Ruth reminded us throughout her life that helping others was one of the greatest joys. We know that her wisdom will continue guiding and inspiring many of us, and that her immense energy will endure through the important work that will receive our attention. At Ruth's request, the Ruth Goldbloom Ladies Golf Classic will continue for many years to come. We are so grateful that thanks to this exceptional lady's unwavering support of Kids Help Phone, lives of young people across Canada will continue to be influenced and transformed by her beliefs and generosity."
Kids Help Phone would like to acknowledge the supporting sponsors to this special event: Bell Aliant, Medavie Blue Cross, Charm Diamond Centres, Colour, Empire Theatre, CTV, and Stewart McKelvey
