The 2013 Toronto Blue Jays Honda Super Camp comes to Vancouver
TORONTO, June 21, 2013 /CNW/ - The ultimate baseball experience begins on Tuesday, June 25 for approximately 120 participants at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver, BC. Kids aged 9-16 will be learning their skills and techniques from former Toronto Blue Jays alumni and former Major League players such as Roberto Alomar, Homer Bush, Cecil Fielder, Candy Maldonado, Lloyd Moseby, Tanyon Sturtze & Devon White. Each participant will receive a Blue Jays photo card supplied by Honda Canada, a hat, t-shirt, instructional manual along with a leather pro model Roberto Alomar Series baseball glove. Two local Honda dealers and staff will also be on hand to serve lunch to all Super Camp participants and distribute various mementos to each child.
Jays Care Foundation believes every child deserves the chance to get involved in organized sport. In partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada and Toronto Community Housing, Jays Care subsidizes registration fees for Blue Jays Baseball Academy Rookie Leaguers in each of the Honda Super Camps to help remove financial barriers to participation. Blue Jays Baseball Academy Rookie League is entering its 25th season and will reach more than 5,000 children and youth across Canada. During each Super Camp, a representative from the local Boys & Girls Club will be presented with a dedicated bat for the Club on behalf of the Blue Jays Baseball Academy.
Major League Baseball and Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig named the Toronto Blue Jays as the 2012 recipient of the Commissioner's Award for Philanthropic Excellence, which was created in 2010 to annually recognize an extraordinary charitable and philanthropic effort of an MLB Club. The Blue Jays were honored this January for the "Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Academy," a series of initiatives to help support youth across Canada and provide them with opportunities on and off the field of play. The Jays Care Foundation, the official charity of the Toronto Blue Jays, will receive a $10,000 grant from Major League Baseball as part of this recognition.
