The 2014 Rock 'N' Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon produced close to $13M in tourism and economic impact Français
MONTREAL, Feb. 3, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - With a unique offer that merges fitness and music, the Rock 'n' Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon is positioned as a significant economic stimulus with spinoffs of close to $13M, according to an economic impact report conducted by San Diego State University.
Each year, the City of Montreal generously hosts the Marathon and today, we are proud to share the many positive impacts of this world-class running event," said Marathon spokesperson, Dominique Arsenault. Thanks to the overwhelming support of the local community combined with all that the Marathon has to offer visiting runners, the 2014 edition was a tremendous success on every level."
The Marathon significantly contributes to the vitality of Montreal including, but not limited to having generating more than $8M in direct spending by visiting runners and close to $700,000 from taxes raised for the Government of Quebec. In addition, Montreal ranks among the preferred tourist destinations for running enthusiasts from around the world. In 2014, the Marathon was responsible for a 10% increase in the number of tourists to Montreal and contributed to a 6% increase in overnight stays in the city's accommodations.
The organization expects more than 35,000 participants from around 50 countries to participate in the event on Sunday, September 20, 2015, thus breaking the record set in 2014.
An outstanding race experience according to the latest survey
Participants' reaction to the 2014 event has definitely raised expectations for the next race. "Based on the 2014 race survey results, we have a lot to look forward to for upcoming editions" explained Ms Arsenault. In fact, over 4,000 runners were surveyed on their 2014 race experience. The results confirmed the added value of the little details and improvements brought by the organization in the last year, which clearly paid off.
From these results, the following key observations can be made:
- 59% of respondents gave grade of 90% to 100% in answer to the question:Would you recommend this event ? Would you recommend this event ?, which is a 21% increase over 2013;
- A 38% increase of the overall rate of satisfaction (based on the Net Promoter Score) (Net Promoter Score) for all races in 2014;
- The start, arrival, show, atmosphere and customer service were the areas with the greatest improvement.
"This celebration of health and fitness belongs to the public, and it is by listening to its participants that the Marathon can ensure its vitality...," added Ms Arsenault, "...Perhaps for another 25 years?" The Marathon, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is the most popular running race in Quebec and continues to be one of the 20 largest races in North America.
