TORONTO, March 31, 2016 /CNW/ - A live performance by The Weeknd to be taped Sunday in Calgary will appear in THE IHEARTRADIO MUSIC AWARDS airing Saturday, April 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV.ca, and the CTV GO app. The alternative R&B sensation will perform from the Scotiabank Saddledome on April 3.
The announcement comes following the new Bell Media and iHeartRadio partnership announced in January, and the news earlier this month that Bell Media will present the first-ever iHeartRadio Fest in May in Toronto. Hosted this year by platinum recording artist Jason Derulo, THE IHEARTRADIO MUSIC AWARDS celebrates the most popular music heard throughout the year across iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide and on iHeartRadio. THE IHEARTRADIO MUSIC AWARDS airs in the U.S. Sunday, April 3, live on TBS, TNT, and truTV at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from the Forum in Los Angeles.
A native of Toronto, The Weeknd was one of the most influential artists of 2015 as a result of the release of Beauty Behind the Madness, which went on to break several Billboard records including spending 45 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, the longest streak for any male artist. "The Hills" clinched #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive weeks, and he became the first male to top Hot 100, Billboard 100, and Artist 100 simultaneously, and the first artist to ever simultaneously hold the Top 3 slots on Billboard's R&B Chart. Meanwhile, Beauty Behind The Madness is the first album to surpass over 100 million global audio streams debut week. The Weeknd is nominated for six 2016 JUNO Awards, the most of any artist, including Album of the Year, and seven IHEARTRADIO MUSIC AWARDS, including Male Artist of the Year.
