MONTREAL, Sept. 21, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - This past Saturday, some twenty cyclists hopped aboard their bikes in order to raise funds for the Fondation du Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM). Led by Dr. Paul Perrotte, uro-oncologist and Dr. Pierre Laramée, cardiologist, along with Luc Grisé, a patient and cancer survivor now dealing with cardiovascular disease, the team covered the 275 km between Montreal and Quebec under a blazing sun. They are now very close to reaching their fundraising objective of $100,000.
"We are proud to have once again taken up this challenge and touched to realize that every year more and more people rally for the cause," declared both physicians. "Bringing together patients, friends and the CHUM community, the DOC-Bicycle Challenge witnesses to the firm commitment of giving the best in health care to everyone. The determination seen in this effort, despite the heat, still pales in comparison to the courage of our patients."
Among the crowd cheering on the cyclists, were Ms. Luce Moreau, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Fondation du CHUM, who was proud to see the involvement of CHUM members as well as Ms. Jeanne-Évelyne Turgeon, Director of quality, evaluation, performance and strategic planning at the CHUM, who rode part of the way at the team's side.
Mario Perron, one of Dr. Laramée's patients, and a recent victim of a heart attack while driving his car was also present to encourage the participants. He made mention of the importance of supporting the Fondation: "The staff at the CHUM saved my life. It's when you find yourself in situations like mine that you realize how important it is to give them the tools they need. Every act of giving has a substantial impact on the quality of patients' lives."
There is still time to get behind the DOC-Bicycle team with a donation, which will make a difference for both CHUM patients and the professionals who care for them.
