OTTAWA, May 12, 2015 /CNW/ - Which Street, Neighbourhood and Public Space will be designated as Canada's greatest in 2015? Where will these nominations come from? Get ready for an exciting summer of discovery and competition as new places are revealed, shared and even re-discovered.
The 5th annual Great Places in Canada contest will be open to nominations on May 26, 2015. Voting begins as soon as a nomination is posted on Great Places in Canada's website. The Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), created this contest to engage Canadians in sharing their favourite places and to recognize how Professional Planners have made these places possible.
In each of the three categories, one place will be crowned victor and be given the title of Great Street, Great Public Space or Great Neighbourhood for 2015. A jury of Professional Planners will award this honour based a variety of planning merits. The winning nominator not only earns the designation for his/her place, they also receive a great prize.
The contest also boasts a People's Choice award which is given to the place which earns the most votes throughout the summer. This is a great summer contest and a fun way to rally your community. The winning nominators in this category also receive a prize.
Nominations close on September 3 and voting closes September 24. After the finalists are announced in October, the Grand Prize winners and People's Choice winners will be announced November 4th, 2015.
In our opinion, every contender is a winner. National exposure to your community through the contest can be a unifying experience.
