The 6th National Conference to Defeat Cancer launches an appeal for lucidity in dealing with real health issues Français
MONTREAL, April 3, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The 6th National Conference to Defeat Cancer, which begins today in Montreal, is marked by the release of a study earlier this week, revealing the true magnitude of cancer's economic costs in Quebec, which exceeded $4.2 billion in 2013.
Under the theme "Cancer: a chronic disease like any other?", some 350 participants, hailing from all corners of the province, will share their views with high-profile speakers regarding a variety of aspects related to life and cancer survival. Thanks to the advancement of research, the development of treatments and drugs that are more effective and increasingly focused, as well as the introduction of new professional methods, cancer survival rates continue to improve. As a result, patients are living longer and enjoying a much better quality of life. Actually, cancer is now considered to be a chronic disease. But what are its current and future impacts?
"With all these key players in the battle against cancer, i.e. patients, survivors and healthcare professionals deeply committed through their personal struggles and experiences, we will attempt to assess the state of the battle against cancer, and also devise solutions designed to improve what is being done in Quebec," says Nathalie Rodrigue, T.M., president of Coalition Priorité Cancer au Québec. The patron of the 6th National Conference, author-composer and performer Édith Butler, will share her own experience, an anthem of hope.
