MONTREAL, Sept. 8, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The 7th Centraide Cup, a benefit soccer tournament of 30 corporate teams that will spend the weekend of September 8 and 9 playing soccer at Stade Saputo, has raised $292,500, or $67,500 more than last year's tournament.
This money will go to Centraide of Greater Montreal and the Montreal Impact Foundation to support many projects that prevent school dropouts and improve the quality of life of children and families in need.
Young Montrealers are among those most affected by poverty. One out of four children grow up in families that lack the resources and support they need to provide their children with the right conditions to develop.
For the Centraide Cup, 500 employees will represent their companies in this charity soccer tournament to support vulnerable children and their families. To participate, each organization had to raise at least $10,000 in donations and sponsorships to register a first team and $7,500 to register a second team.
"The Centraide Cup is a can't-miss event for employees and companies who want to join forces to help the community. Thanks to their participation and generosity, Centraide can put children on the path to success to break the cycle of poverty and social exclusion," explains Yannick Elliott, Vice-President – Resource Development, Centraide of Greater Montreal.
"This event promotes physical activity, team sports, and collective support. We can give soccer fans a unique experience on the field of Stade Saputo while also giving young people a better quality of life," says Véronique Fortin, Executive Director of the Montreal Impact Foundation.
The organizations competing for the prestigious Centraide Cup are: AECOM, Aéroports de Montréal, BMO Financial Group, Bombardier, CAE, Deloitte, Desjardins Group, EY, Hydro-Québec, iA Financial Group, Lallemand, Lavery Lawyers, LGS Group Consulting Corporation, an IBM Company, Manulife, McCarthy Tétrault, McKesson Canada, National Bank, NAV CANADA, METRO, Norton Rose Fulbright, Passion Soccer Boutique, Pratt & Whitney Canada, RBC Royal Bank, Saputo, TVA Sports, and Ville de Montréal.
Soccer fans can attend the matches for free at Stade Saputo, which is open with free admission today (September 8) until 3:30 p.m. and tomorrow (September 9). The games will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. The playoffs will start at 2:00 p.m., and the winning teams in the competitive and recreational divisions will be known at 5:00 p.m.
The mission of the Montreal Impact Foundation is to organize and support activities to advance education and improve the quality of life of impoverished children and their families. The Foundation's logo was created with its mission in mind: the child-like writing represents the reason for its existence—the children—while the heart symbolizes the energy and love needed to give them hope.
