TORONTO, Oct. 18, 2017 /CNW/ - Good news at last! Canada's most satirical series ever, THE BEAVERTON, returns to the late-night fold with a multi-platform viewing season, beginning November 1. Timelier than ever, The Comedy Network's CSA-nominated original series now tapes Mondays in front of a live studio audience before premiering Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy.
The 13 episodes of Season 2 of THE BEAVERTON also roll out:
- Fridays on CraveTV, beginning Nov. 3
- Sundays at midnight on CTV, beginning Nov. 5
- Full episodes, episode highlights, and exclusive digital shorts are also available on TheComedyNetwork.ca, TheBeaverton.com, and ComedyGO, after their broadcast premiere.
Season 1 of THE BEAVERTON is currently streaming on CraveTV. Viewers can also engage with the series and access exclusive digital content 24/7, across The Beaverton and Comedy's social media accounts.
Fueled by the no-holds-barred wit of a writing room led by TheBeaverton.com's creator and series showrunner Luke Gordon-Field, THE BEAVERTON continues to hit above, below, and to the right and left of the belt, casting a Canadian lens on global issues with timely and topical viral-ready segments. Primed to deliver the critical blows are comedians and co-anchors Emma Hunter and Miguel Rivas, along with correspondents Aisha Alfa, Dave Barclay, Laura Cilevitz, Donavon Stinson, and Marilla Wex. Co-creator Jeff Detsky, also returns as showrunner. And actor and producer on FULL FRONTAL WITH SAMANTHA BEE, Allana Harkin, serves as Consulting Producer this season.
"With the return of THE BEAVERTON, we're excited to step back into the late-night satire ring with our own original series," said Patricia DiVittorio, Vice-President, Programming, CTV and Specialty. "As was brilliantly done in Season 1 with our incredible production partners Pier 21 Films and fiercely funny team of writers and cast, this upcoming season will continue to hold a mirror to the world's issues and reflect a biting truth through comedy."
"It's going to be a wicked second season utterly unforgiving of social trends, bad politics, and celebrity worship," said Executive Producer and President of Pier 21 Films, Laszlo Barna. "We've lined up the top comedy writers and talent in Canada and THE BEAVERTON is going to be a much needed guide, as we Trump into 2018."
"We are thrilled to be coming back for a second season of biting commentary on current events," said Creator and Co-Executive Producer Luke Gordon Field. "Even though there isn't much going on and the news is pretty boring these days, we're confident we'll find something to talk about."
With more than 10 million views since the series launch in 2016 and averaging nearly half a million unique visitors a month, TheBeaverton.com remains a go-to source for Canadian satire. Some of the year's most popular stories include:
- Jared Leto prepares for his role as Hugh Hefner by publishing nude photos of women without their consent.
- Nation excited to briefly consider Jagmeet Singh before giving Trudeau a second term.
- Update: Tweet that starts WWIII will now be up to 280 characters long.
Apart from an online and television presence, THE BEAVERTON is determined to also leave a paper trail with the release of its first-ever book, The Beaverton Presents Glorious and/or Free: The True History of Canada (Penguin Canada). With an October 31 release timed to the launch of Season 2, editors Luke Gordon Field and Alex Huntley take a ruthless stab at our national myths and legends in a part mock-history, part fake-scrapbook, with fully illustrated original art and "historical" images that take a look back over Canada's past to show how we became the ridiculous nation we are today.
THE BEAVERTON is the brainchild of co-creators Luke Gordon Field and Jeff Detsky (CALL ME FITZ, SEED) of TheBeaverton.com, as well as website senior editors Jacob Duarte Spiel and Alexander Saxton. Directors are Shelagh O'Brien (JUST FOR LAUGHS GALAS), Andrew Bush (PICNICFACE), Craig David Wallace (TODD AND THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL), and Henry Sarwer-Foner (THE RICK MERCER REPORT). Pier 21 Film's Laszlo Barna and Melissa Williamson serve as Executive Producers. Nicole Butler serves as Producer.
THE BEAVERTON is produced by Pier 21 Films in association with The Comedy Network, with the participation of Canadian Media Fund, and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit. Sarah Fowlie is Director, Original Production, Comedy, Bell Media. Production executive for Bell Media is Bill Lundy. Corrie Coe is Senior Vice-President, Original Programming, Bell Media. Mike Cosentino is President, Content and Programming. Randy Lennox is President, Bell Media.
