The Blood Telegram Wins the 2014 Lionel Gelber Prize

Gary J. Bass to Speak About his Winning Book at a Free Public Event in April

TORONTO AND WASHINGTON, March 31, 2014 /CNW/ - Patricia Rubin, President of the Lionel Gelber Prize Board and niece of Lionel Gelber, today announced that this year's is Gary J. Bass for The Blood Telegram: Nixon, Kissinger, and a Forgotten Genocide, published by Alfred A. Knopf.

Jury Chair William Thorsell remarked: "Gary Bass draws a brilliant portrait of the tragic birth of Bangladesh. He produces shocking revelations about the role of Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger in backing Pakistan's genocidal suppression of democracy in Bangladesh, even as American diplomats on the ground described the horrors around them. This is an epic tale told with verve and authority about war and diplomacy in toxic embrace."

Gary J. Bass will speak at the Munk School of Global Affairs, at the University of Toronto, on Thursday, April 24th.
