MONTREAL, July 18, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The President of the Society for the Celebration of Montréal's 375th Anniversary, Mr. Jacques Parisien, is pleased to announce the new composition of the board of directors that brings together 27 Montrealers known for their leadership, vision, and desire to help Montréal grow (see the list).
"I have met the directors and I can assure you of their profound commitment to use the unique opportunity presented by Montréal's 375th anniversary celebrations to increase Montrealers' pride and to build a lasting legacy for our city. In addition to several key actors from the business world, the board of directors is made up of inspiring leaders from various Montréal milieus. Furthermore, we wanted to ensure that women were well represented. There are 10 women on the board, which is nearly 40% of the directors. I am, therefore, very proud to preside over this board of directors that brings together such a variety of experts. For me, it is a portrait of Montréal's diversity," declared Mr. Parisien.
"I am pleased that men and women from a variety of professional backgrounds—social, cultural, and business—have decided to become involved in preparations for the celebration of Montréal's 375th anniversary. I am sure that the members of this board of directors will make a significant contribution to this project that will mobilize all Montrealers," added mayor of Montreal, Mr. Laurent Blanchard.
"The composition of this new board of directors reflects the dynamism, excellence, creativity, and savoir-faire for which Montrealers are known. The year 2017 will be a landmark year and an opportunity to make history. I am delighted that people of such calibre are working together to make it a resounding success," added Mr. Jean-François Lisée, Minister of International Relations, La Francophonie and External Trade and Minister responsible for the Montréal Region.
In operation since the start of 2013, the Society's mission is to organize, in cooperation with various private and public partners, the celebrations for Montréal's 375th anniversary in 2017. Currently in the planning stages, the Society is working to define what the celebrations will entail and to set up an open, transparent administrative and governance structure. It will also ensure that this anniversary creates a legacy Montrealers can be proud of. The work currently underway takes into account the orientations proposed during the public consultations held in 2011 by the City of Montréal. There, citizens expressed the importance of celebrating Montreal's identity through its history and heritage, its spaces, its people, and its presence and influence.
The Society for the Celebration of Montréal's 375th Anniversary is a non-profit organization supported by the City of Montréal and the Secrétariat à la région métropolitaine of the Government of Quebec.
