The Brick and its customers support Fort McMurray

Over $150,000 raised for families impacted by wildfires

EDMONTON, May 19, 2016 /CNW/ - Today, The Brick delivered to the Canadian Red Cross $150,000 raised through its campaign to help Fort McMurray residents and families following the devastating wildfires.  

The funds were raised through a combination of customer donations and The Brick matching donations up to $50,000. 

The Brick and its employees have also contributed to the relief efforts in other significant ways. Immediately upon learning of the evacuation, The Brick launched an employee campaign to donate necessities to evacuees and volunteer at evacuation centres. The Brick has also contributed its fleet trucks to aid in the transportation of much needed assistance.

"This impressive outpouring of assistance makes a significant difference in the lives impacted by the Fort McMurray wildfires," said Jim Caldwell, President of The Brick. "I am so proud of the great people at The Brick who pull together in times of need and give back to the community in true Brick fashion."

The Brick operates two locations in Fort McMurray, The Brick and United Furniture Warehouse.  Both locations have not suffered significant damage. 

"I want to express my sincere appreciation to the first responders who saved lives, homes and livelihoods while facing an incredible beast," expressed Mr. Caldwell.  "These individuals are true heroes for their bravery and sacrifice."   

The Brick employs 43 Brick and United Furniture Warehouse team members in Fort McMurray.

"My family and I are very appreciative of what The Brick has done for us during this time.  I know my colleagues from the Fort McMurray stores feel the same way," said Geoffrey Guenther, Store Manager at The Brick in Fort McMurray.  "I am truly proud to be part of the Brick team, a team that cares about its employees and community."
