The British Columbia Chiropractic Association - Dr. Jay Robinson of Burnaby
elected President
RICHMOND, BC, Oct 7 /CNW/ - Dr. Jay Robinson of Burnaby was elected President of the 900-member British Columbia Chiropractic Association at the association's recent Annual General Meeting. Dr. Robinson was first elected to the Board of Directors in 2006 and he has served in other executive positions.
"This is an extraordinarily interesting time in Canadian health care management," Dr. Robinson said. "Governments all state that they have 'hit the wall' in terms of finance and must find more efficient and effective ways to provide care. There is greater utilization than ever of a broad range of health services and our profession demonstrates its value every day."
He added: "BC doctors of chiropractic treat approximately 600,000 different patients each year, and research is definitive that with musculoskeletal issues, our non-surgical, non-pharmaceutical and non-invasive treatments get people back into productive lives much more quickly and less expensively than any other alternative. Chiropractic works effectively with various health programs, the BC Ministry of Health, ActNow BC, other government ministries, ICBC, WorkSafe BC, Pacific Blue Cross and many other agencies."
Dr. Robinson is a graduate of the Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon and also a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician by the American Board of Chiropractic Sports Physicians. He was the team chiropractor and medical advisor for the former Vancouver Griffins of the National Women's Hockey League. During 2003, he was guest lecturer and a consultant in course development at Palestine's University of Bethlehem.
Other Board members elected at the AGM are: Dr. Larry Merritt of Prince George (Vice President); Dr. Clifford Thai of Surrey (Secretary Treasurer); Dr. Clark Konczak of Victoria; Dr. Jennifer Chen of Richmond; Dr. Jim Cooper of Penticton (Canadian Chiropractic Association Governor); and, Dr. Heather McLeod of Richmond (Past President).
"Among the most exciting challenges we are currently investing in is the development of a Western Canadian School of Chiropractic, in Greater Vancouver," Dr. Robinson said. "It has been a dream for a generation and it has never been closer to reality. We will keep hundreds of students and many tens of millions of dollars closer to home, working for the benefit of British Columbians."
