Unveiling and official give away ceremony of the azulejo mural for Montreal's 375th
One of the highlights of the 2017 celebrations will be the unveiling and official give away ceremony of the azulejo mural from the contest "The Portuguese celebrate Montreal". On Saturday June 10 at 3 p.m., the Portuguese community will pay tribute to their host city, Montreal, at the Portugal Park (corner Saint-Laurent Blvd and Marie-Anne). The big ceramic mural, measuring 6m by 4m, celebrates the contribution of Portuguese people to the city, highlighting Montreal's multicultural character. The mural was created in the ceramic workshops by students of the Universidade dos Tempos Livres (University of free time) of the Mission Santa Cruz, according to the project of Montreal artist Paulo Jones. The artwork was chosen following a public contest supported by the Caisse Desjardins Portugaise and to which participated more than twenty artists. Quincaillerie Home Hardware Azores donated the space for the mural.
Montreal welcomes Portuguese for more than 60 years. The Portuguese community wishes to celebrate the city's unconditional welcome and celebrate with all Montrealers of all origins 375 years of community spirit, solidarity and respect.
The mayor of Montreal, Mr Denis Coderre, the advisor of the Portuguese Communities, Mr Daniel Loureiro, the General Consul of Portugal in Montreal, Mr José Guedes de Sousa, and the Quebec Minister of Finances, Mr Carlos Leitão, will participate in the official ceremony on June 10.
