Card
CALGARY, Oct 4 /CNW/ - The Calgary Foundation believes that vital cities are resilient cities. But how do we know if we're making progress? Tracking the current and long-term vitality of our city is the purpose of Calgary's Vital Signs - an annual checkup that reports on both the facts and citizen perceptions on the quality of life in twelve key issue areas:
Food, Sustainable City, Belonging & Leadership, Housing, Work, Environment, Immigrant Newcomers, Financial Well Being, Arts & Culture, Heath & Wellness, Safety and Learning
Time: | Tuesday Oct. 5 | 9:30 - 10:30 am |
Location: | Fort Calgary | 730 9th Avenue SE |
"A vital city has many moving parts… it's always interesting to learn how Calgarians rated their quality of life." reports Eva Friesen, President & CEO of The Calgary Foundation. "From the 22,000 comments received in our survey, we discovered that despite navigating rough economic waters over the last two years, Calgarians are feeling relatively upbeat."
What's working?
- safe city centre with increased police presence, homeless shelter use is declining, high rates of businesses and self employment and arts events/attendance is thriving
What's not working?
- high youth unemployment, green house gas emissions highest in Canada, citizens aren't doing enough to welcome new Calgarians and the high cost of food
"As an annual snapshot that takes the pulse of our city, Calgary's Vital Signs is always evolving." says Eva Friesen. "This year, a section on Food has been added to reflect the growing trend of discussion and activity in this issue area."
Interviews available with members of Calgary Vital Signs team and relevant community issue experts. Refreshments provided.
