LAVAL, QC, May 25 /CNW Telbec/ - On May 20, Chantal Meesen, deputy director (fund raising) for the Canadian Red Cross in Québec, has visited the Teamsters Canada national office to remit a certificate underlining its generosity.
Let us recall that the Teamsters Union donated $50,000 to the Red Cross to assist the people who survived the terrible earthquake last January 12.
Local union officers and the Canadian president spontaneously communicated with each other in the hours and days following the earthquake to determine how the union could help Haiti.
"Canada has proportionally been one of the most generous nations of the Western hemisphere," points out the president of Teamsters Canada. "We have every reason to be proud."
Mrs. Meesen and Mr. Bouvier agree that the fight is far from over and that it will take years for Haiti to recover from this catastrophe. In fact, Mr. Bouvier invites all Canadians to continue to be generous over the coming months and years.
"There is much to do, and the people of Haiti need our help now more then ever," adds the union leader.
The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America.
