The CBSA seizes 31.9 kg of suspected cocaine from a traveller's suitcases at Montréal-Trudeau Airport

MONTREAL, March 6, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today that its officers have seized 31.9 kg of suspected cocaine at Montréal-Trudeau Airport.

This large quantity of suspected cocaine was discovered on February 27, 2013 in the suitcases of a traveller arriving on a flight from Jamaica. CBSA officers searched the two suitcases and discovered drugs hidden in 63 packages of powdered soy milk. After conducting tests, they determined that the drugs were suspected cocaine.

"This seizure is the result of the diligence of the CBSA officers who work closely with other law enforcement organizations to prevent the entry into Canada of illegal drugs and ensure the protection and safety of Canadians," said Benoît Chiquette, Regional Director General of the CBSA, Quebec Region.

CBSA officers arrested the traveller, who was turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which is continuing the investigation.

In 2012, CBSA officers at the Montréal-Trudeau Airport, Travellers Section carried out 205 drug seizures. During the same period, Quebec Region border services officers carried out a total of 1,653 drug seizures.
