The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs congratulates Thomas Mulcair
TORONTO, March 24, 2012 /CNW/ - The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs congratulates the New Democratic Party for a successful leadership contest, and Thomas Mulcair in particular, as he assumes his new role as the Leader of the Official Opposition.
David Koschitzky, Chair of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, issued the following statement:
"We extend sincere congratulations to Mr. Mulcair and all the candidates on a well fought race, the tenor of which reflects well on all the candidates and would surely have made the late Jack Layton proud."
As Mr. Mulcair settles into his new role, the Centre looks forward to working with him on files of concern to Canadian Jewry. Mr. Mulcair has enjoyed a strong relationship with the Jewish community, through his work at both the provincial and federal levels of government, and I am confident that under his leadership the friendship between the NDP and the Jewish community will continue to strengthen over the coming years.
"I know that many members of the Jewish community were actively involved in the leadership campaigns of the various candidates and I salute their civic engagement and commitment to the democratic process."
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs is a non-partisan organization that serves as the Canadian Jewish community's official spokesperson to government and media.
