The Chief of the AFNQL, Ghislain Picard, Commends the Determination and Strong Convictions of Mrs. Jeannette Pilot, but Urges Her to End Her Hunger Strike Français
WENDAKE, QC, March 21, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Madam Jeannette Pilot, an Innu from Uashat Mani-Uténam, has undertaken a hunger strike this past January 1st. On March 13th, Madam Pilot indicated that she was now refraining from drinking, thus moving on to a complete fast. Madam Pilot wants to join forces with all those who have spoken in support of the Idle No More movement.
We may recall that Chief Theresa Spence also carried out a fast in December and January, which she ended subsequently.
"I respect the action taken by Madam Jeannette Pilot, a gesture which calls for tremendous courage. I know her convictions and her determination for having had the opportunity to talk with her recently. Her convictions and even her anger, are those of an entire people, those of the First Nations who are tired of being forgotten, tired of the lack of respect and disregard for our territories and our resources", stated Ghislain Picard.
"Yet, I remain convinced that the action taken by Jeannette has already had a great effect; an effect that has already contributed to bring the First Nation issues into the spotlight. I am now asking her to look after her health, to recover her strength in order to continue the fight with all those who share her convictions", added the Chief of the AFNQL.
