Hundreds of people Step into the Magic of a Wish at Maisonneuve Park on Saturday October 13
MONTREAL, Oct. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Several hundred people will come together on Saturday, October 13 at Maisonneuve Park for the 8th edition of the Wishmaker Walk for Wishes, a family event in support of the Children's Wish Foundation. Together, they will create the magic of a wish by helping Children's Wish pursue its mission, granting children living with a life threatening illness their most heartfelt wish. Each year in October, thousands of walkers gather in over 90 communities across Canada to collect funds and give hope to sick children. Since 2005, more than 9 million dollars have been raised through this national event.

For the third consecutive year, Stéphane Bellavance, spokesperson of the Wishmaker Walk for Wishes, will host the event with Children's Wish ambassador Lori Graham. Mr. François William Croteau, mayor of the Rosemont - La Petite-Patrie borough and guest of honour, will also be present to encourage the participants.
"From the moment I got involved with Children's Wish," says Stéphane Bellavance, "I've been able to see how much granting a wish brings joy and hope to a sick child. Together, we can help the Children's Wish Foundation meet its objective of granting 1,000 new wishes this year."
A fun filled family day
Participants are invited to take part in activities for the whole family throughout the day. They will enjoy face painting, arts and crafts, the work of a cartoonist and live music performances by wish children and the all girls band Belles Angels.
For the first time this year, a sporting challenge has been added to the event as participants can take part in a 2k, 5k or 10k run in the morning. Lucky's food truck will be on site to serve lunch and partakers will be able to buy smoothies from Smoothfruit who will donate part of their profits to Children's Wish. A warm up session led by a team from the Mfitness club will precede the traditional 2k walk which will be held in the afternoon to the percussive rhythms of Samajam.
"Last year, thanks to everyone's support, Children's Wish was able to grant over 300 wishes to Québec Children," explains Mr. Laurent Larose, Children's Wish Regional Director. "We invite everyone in Montreal to join us and take part in the day's activities to help us pursue our mission and create the magic of a wish for sick children and their families."
