The city is proud to be a partner of the 39th Festival international de jazz de Montréal

MONTRÉAL, June 28, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Festival international de jazz de Montréal (FIJM) is back this summer for its 39^th edition! Starting today, through July 7^th, festival-goers will enjoy a high-quality, diverse musical programming, two thirds of which will be free of charge. The shows will be presented on more than 20 stages and in concert halls downtown Montréal.

"The Festival international de jazz de Montréal is continuing its long-standing tradition by offering accessible, high-quality concerts, thus bringing a wide range of musical styles to a growing jazz audience. This objective of cultural democratization is certainly beneficial to Montréal's population and to our local music scene. It also honors Montréal's reputation as a vibrant, innovative, and lively cultural metropolis", stated the mayor of Montréal, Valérie Plante.

The city salutes the decision to expand the Festival's programming to city neighborhoods by the summer of 2019, for its 40^th anniversary. These new show locations, tailored to meet the needs of their respective boroughs, will enable the Festival to reach an even greater number of Montréalers, outside of the Quartier des spectacles.

"We welcome this initiative that will enable us to roll out a local jazz programming. This vision is in line with the city's Cultural Development Policy, regarding the development of cultural neighborhoods, all while maintaining the focus on the Quartier des spectacles", specified Christine Gosselin, executive committee member in charge of heritage and design.

"The Festival de jazz de Montréal contributes to enhancing tourism in this metropolis of Québec. The Festival alone creates 1,000 jobs. It also generates economic benefits of $48.5 M, a performance that confirms that culture is a key economic lever and plays a role in our city's economic growth", said Robert Beaudry, executive committee member in charge of economic and commercial development.

Montréal's financial contribution to this 39^th edition of the Festival is of $600,000. Full programming is available at: montrealjazzfest.com.
