The City of Montreal and the SNC-Lavalin/Hatch Consortium Both Take Home the 2013 PMI-Montreal Project of the Year Award Français
MONTREAL, Nov. 7, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - For the first time ever, PMI-Montreal awarded two Project of the Year Awards at its Elixir Gala, held last night, November 6, at the Montreal Science Centre. The projects submitted by the City of Montreal, Saint-Laurent borough, and the SNC-Lavalin/Hatch Consortium were each of exceptional quality, which is why the jury chose to recognize them both. The Project of the Year Award acknowledges superior project performance in various fields of expertise, as well as exemplary Project Management, notably in terms of budget and schedule compliance.
The City of Montreal, Saint-Laurent borough, was honoured for creating the Bibliothèque du Boisé, which has become a model of good management for the city and its administrators. The SNC-Lavalin/Hatch Consortium was recognized for Phase 1 of its AP60 project, which saw the installation at the Rio Tinto Alcan Jonquière Complex of the first 38 AP60 pots operating at 600 kA. Management of that project led to a culture of collaboration and risk management, which contributed to increasing health, safety and environmental standards in major projects.
Two other projects were also up for the award: Space for Life's Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium and GENIVAR's Gaspé mine rehabilitation.
"I'm very proud of the project team lead by Marie-Claude Le Sauteur. This award proves that the City of Montreal is capable of rigor and innovation. It is a great example for the province of Quebec and case study in Project Management. We aimed at creating the best project possible. Tonight, I'm happy to say… Mission accomplished!", said Alan DeSousa, mayor of the Saint-Laurent borough.
"First I would like to congratulate all the nominees. This gala is a great opportunity to showcase the greatness of project management in Quebec. I believe you need a great client to deliver a great project. The SNC-Lavalin/Hatch Consortium and Rio Tinto Alcan all shared the same vision: rigor, courage and passion. We are proud of the contribution of Quebec's expertise to this project, which has established a very good technology for the future", stated Andre Noel, manager of Phase 1 of the AP60 project.
The winners have been entered to compete at the Project Management Institute's Project of the Year international semifinals. In recent years, several of the projects acknowledged by PMI-Montreal have gone on to win at the international level.
"We are very pleased with the excellence of the applications received. In today's environment, it's reassuring to know that Project Management in Quebec meets high standards of quality," said Benoît Lalonde, PMI-Montreal president.
Approximately 180 guests attended the Gala élixir's cocktail reception and award ceremony. In honour of the 10th anniversary of this PMI-Montreal program, the event theme was "mentoring." The Gala élixir exists to highlight excellence in project management and as a networking opportunity for members.
