The City of Toronto and Canada’s Walk of Fame Cooperate on Maintenance
Program for Famed Plaques on the Streets of Toronto’s Entertainment
District
TORONTO, Sept. 16 /CNW/ - The City of Toronto and Canada’s Walk of Fame (CWOF) today announced a joint effort to maintain and preserve the inductee plaques that commemorate Canadian excellence and line the streets of Toronto’s Entertainment District.
In light of emerging evidence that some of the older plaques on the 12-year old Walk have indeed suffered some measure of damage due to wear and tear and weather, CWOF CEO and President, Peter Soumalias today said that he will continue to work with the City to ensure an ongoing maintenance program.
“Canada’s Walk of Fame is a national treasure aimed at preserving the honour, integrity and permanent celebration of remarkable Canadians,” said Soumalias. “Canadians coast-to-coast have expressed concern about this and we’re certainly committed to the ongoing maintenance of the Walk. Canada’s Walk of Fame has ordered new plaques for Gordie Howe and William Shatner and the City will install them as soon as possible. Together with the City, we will continue to inspect the plaques and determine the best possible practices to maintain them. Thank you to all Canadians for their ongoing support around this matter.”
“The City of Toronto and Canada’s Walk of Fame are partners in sustaining the integrity of this important institution," said Peter Noehammer, Director, Transportation Services, City of Toronto. “The City found that minor repairs are required on some of the plaques, and we’re looking forward to working with Canada’s Walk of Fame to maintain the area in a state of good repair.”
