SARNIA, ON, June 9 /CNW/ - A $100,000 gift to The Lambton College Foundation was announced today by The Co-operators at a press conference held at Lambton College.
The gift, made up of contributions from The Co-operators Foundation and local agent Franco Filia, will be directed to the Lambton College Sustainable Smart Home with its theme of sustainability as it aligns with The Co-operators sustainability policy and strategy.
"The Co-operators is committed to helping build greener, more sustainable communities, and that's precisely the goal of the Sustainable Smart House," said Kathy Bardswick, President and CEO, The Co-operators. "Lambton College is a leader in supporting development of a forward-looking alternative energy sector in Sarnia, which will provide green jobs in the years and decades ahead."
Dr. Tony Hanlon, President and CEO, Lambton College, Andy Brandt, Chair, The Lambton College Foundation and Franco Filia, Co-Chair of the Sarnia Lambton Business Community Committee for the campaign and The Co-operators local agent were joined by Don Viau, Vice-President, and Rick Filipetti, District Manager, The Co-operators, to make the special announcement regarding support for Lambton College and its sustainability initiatives.
The Sustainable Smart Home will be built on Lambton College's main campus and will serve as a community resource for engineers, architects, developers, students, and the general public to evaluate energy-saving, energy-generating strategies. The Home will also serve as a teaching lab for assessing alternative energy sources and evolving building technologies. It will be continually updated to demonstrate emerging technologies and construction techniques. The Home will also house research facilities to enable investigation of the intermittency issues associated with renewable energy systems.
The Lambton College Foundation launched the Inspiring The Future $5 Million Fundraising Campaign April 28, 2010 and has currently raised $2,123,228 towards their goal.
