The Coalition Priorité Cancer au Québec: A new president to head the Patients and Survivors Committee Français
MONTREAL, Nov. 18, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Coalition Priorité Cancer au Québec is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Serge Dion to the presidency of its Patients and Survivors Committee. He succeeds Mr. Benoit Bisson, who passed away last April.
"I am proud to have been chosen by my colleagues to chair the Patients and Survivors Committee. Our committee plays an important role within the Coalition because it's the mouthpiece of those that we defend," explains Mr. Dion, who also adds, "and this mouthpiece is the voice that will resonate louder and stronger publicly so that patients, survivors and caregivers play integral roles in the decision making processes within the organisation and the delivery of cancer care and services."
Mr. Dion is a survivor of urological cancer and lives in the Outaouais region.
In recent years, he has worked on several cases that deal with the fight against cancer in Québec. He became involved in the Coalition, first as a member of the Patients and Survivors Committee and then, since 2012, as the Chair of the organizational committee for the National Conference to Defeat Cancer.
Bold Agenda
Mr. Dion plans to head a daring program. Specifically it will include a tour of Québec regions to reach out to patients, survivors and caregivers, as well as health care professionals and community stakeholders in order to understand their needs and to reveal openly the challenges they face. The committee hopes to recruit new members and to create a network of regional respondents, in collaboration with already existing organizations.
The Committee's new president invites patients and survivors who wish to get involved more actively in the fight against cancer to contact him through the Coalition's email: [email protected]
The Coalition and its Patients and Survivors Committee intend to continue to give a strong voice to individuals affected by cancer.
The Coalition Priorité Cancer au Québec wishes Mr. Dion good luck on this new role and thanks Ms. Nicole Giroux for having been the acting chair of the Committee for over a year. Ms. Giroux remains a member of the committee.
