THE CORNWALL REGIONAL TASK FORCE ARRESTS 19 INDIVIDUALS FOR POSSESSION OF
CONTRABAND TOBACCO
CORNWALL, ON, Oct 6 /CNW/ - The Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) made and assisted in several contraband tobacco seizures in the following regions between September 15th, 2010 and October 4th, 2010:
- 7 seizures in Cornwall, Ontario
- 8 seizures in South Glengarry, Ontario
- 1 seizure in South Stormont, Ontario
- 3 seizures in South Dundas, Ontario
- 1 seizure in Hawkesbury, Ontario
- 1 seizure at the Cornwall Port Of Entry
These seizures resulted in the arrest of 6 individuals who face charges under the federal Excise Act 2001 and/or the provincial Tobacco Tax Act for possession of a tobacco product not properly stamped:
2 from Cornwall, Ontario;
1 from Akwesasne, Ontario;
1 from Sturgeon Falls, Ontario;
1 from Massena, New York;
1 from Pointe Claire, Quebec
And
Also resulted in the arrest and charges of the following 13 individuals:
Kelly Cameron (age 35) from Cornwall, Ontario;
Clinton Satchell (age 20) from St. Catharines, Ontario;
Doug Anderson (age 27) from Cornwall, Ontario;
Jamie Bridson (age 31) from Cornwall, Ontario;
Cody Back (age 28) from Hogansburg, New York;
Wayne Disotell (age 31) from Avonmore, Ontario;
Valerie Rimell (age 35) from Avonmore, Ontario;
Robert Belanger (age 75) from Verdun, Quebec;
Ahtkwiroton Skidders (age 29) from Akwesasne, Ontario;
Tyler Sly (age 24) from Cornwall, Ontario;
Ronen Swisha (age 40) from Toronto, Ontario;
Claude Fortier (age 42) from Cornwall, Ontario;
Brian Lenneau (age 40) from Cornwall, Ontario
Items Seized:
- 20 vehicles
- 5 vessels described as a 4.7 metre Princecraft bass boat, a fishing boat, a Roughneck flat bottom boat, a 3.7 metre Glastron Carlson boat, a Cobra Bass boat
- 3 camping trailers
- 6 boat trailers
- 6 boat motors
- 26,070 re-sealable bags and cartons each containing 200 contraband cigarettes
- $800 Canadian currency
- 12 grams of Marihuana
The CRTF continues to notice an increase in smuggling activity at local marinas. Several camping trailers and a dump truck were modified to conceal contraband tobacco from authorities.
