The Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Borough launches its subsidy program for sustainable hygiene products

MONTRÉAL, Oct. 30, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Borough today launched Québec's most ambitious ecological subsidy program covering the purchase and rental of washable diapers and menstrual products. The program was first adopted by elected officials at the borough council meeting on September 4, 2018.

This two-year pilot project will receive an annual budget of $30,000. Families are encouraged to reduce their environmental footprint by registering for this program. The program also includes a special component that allows low-income families to receive an additional supplement.

Thanks to this program, residents can be reimbursed a percentage of amount spent for the purchase or rental of fabric diapers or the cost of making such diapers, and for the purchase or cost of fabric used to make washable sanitary napkins, menstrual cups, menstrual underwear or sponges. Eligibility criteria are posted on the borough Web site.

"By broadening the scope of the program to include menstrual products and offering an additional amount to low-income families, we're demonstrating how innovative and ambitious this program is," explained Borough Mayor Sue Montgomery.

This subsidy program was first proposed by Lionel Perez, councillor for the district of de Darlington. "I'm pleased that the program will help change behaviours among a number of the families in the borough," added Mr. Perez.

Borough residents who meet the eligibility criteria for the subsidy program may submit their applications for reimbursement to the Éco-quartier Côte-des-Neiges, the Éco-quartier Notre-Dame-de-Grâce or the Accès Montréal offices. This program operates on a first come, first served basis.
