TORONTO, July 18, 2014 /CNW/ - Simon & Schuster Canada is delighted to announce that Andrew Pyper's THE DEMONOLOGIST has won the 2014 ITW Thriller Award for Best Hardcover Novel!
The International Thriller Writers celebrated their 10th anniversary at this year's ThrillerFest IX held in New York City, and presented their ninth annual Thriller Awards on the evening of July 12, 2014, to recognize the best books published in the thriller genre in 2013.
Andrew Pyper's THE DEMONOLOGIST released in hardcover in March 2013 and is a national bestseller in Canada. The Globe and Mail said Pyper's novel is "part horror, part thriller, all page-turner." Highly praised and extensively reviewed, THE DEMONOLOGIST is currently shortlisted for the 2014 Sunburst Award, a finalist for the 2013 Shirley Jackson Award, and has also been optioned for film by Universal Studios and Oscar-winning director/producer Robert Zemeckis.
Andrew Pyper is presently the first and only Canadian writer who has been awarded this prize honoring Best Hardcover Novel. Previous winners include Lisa Gardner, Brian Freeman, and Stephen King.
Kevin Hanson, President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster Canada, says "Andrew is truly deserving of this award. THE DEMONOLOGIST is his sixth novel and has been praised around the world as smart, haunting, and brilliantly written. It was an instant bestseller in Canada. I believe Andrew can look forward to an ever increasing reading audience both at home in Canada and around the world."
Andrew's agent Anne McDermid says "To be nominated alongside Stephen King, Lee Child, Lisa Gardner, Owen Laukkane, Linda Castillo, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, is an immense honor, but to win is truly an indication of Andrew's phenomenal talent. We are excited that the international thriller-writing community has added to the huge success of Andrew's demonic thriller by awarding it the Best Hardcover Novel award, thus acknowledging the popularity of the paranormal thriller for readers everywhere."
Andrew Pyper's next novel, THE DAMNED, will release in February 2015.
