TORONTO, May 20, 2016 /CNW/ - The Directors College is pleased to present Carol Hunter with the Gil Bennett Gold Standard Award and Susan Moellers with the new Outstanding Achievement in Governance Award. Presented Thursday evening at the Annual Celebration event for newly certified Chartered Directors (C. Dir.), specialized program graduates and alumni, these awards recognize the dedication of its esteemed graduates and alumni in raising the bar for professional standards in corporate governance.
"Engaged and skilled boards are often the difference between corporate success and failure. Carol and Susan have built remarkable careers helping organizations prosper thanks to their strong business acumen, passion for performance and diversity of leadership skills," said Michael Hartmann, Principal, The Directors College. "These women have brought strategic thinking, keen judgment and talent to their respective board tables to inspire greatness in their organizations."
Carol Hunter is the 2016 recipient of the Gil Bennett Gold Standard Award, presented by The Directors College to a Chartered Director graduate who has received a top grade on the Chartered Director exam and has also demonstrated over the course of the program the technical and personal characteristics needed to be an effective board director.
Carol Hunter previously held the role of Executive Vice President, Member Relations and Corporate Services at The Co-Operators, where she was responsible for the governance and democratic functioning of the company, member relations and business, human resources, public affairs, legal, compliance, records management, and corporate sustainability and citizenship. Ms. Hunter currently sits on the Meridian Credit Union Board, and the Waterloo Wellington Community Care Access Centre.
In accepting this award at The Directors College 12th graduation ceremony, Ms. Hunter applauded the Chartered Director Program. "Beyond technical competency, literacy, and governance education, boards also need to have a culture that invites constructive criticism and diversity of thought," said Ms. Hunter. "The Director's College program has provided me with many opportunities to put this into practice."
Susan Moellers was presented with The Directors College new Outstanding Achievement in Governance Award for her work in furthering good governance in Canada. New this year, the Outstanding Achievement Award is presented to an alumnus, who has displayed the core values and strategies taught in The Directors College and whose achievements have been proven to be forward thinking (know), values-driven (be) and change enabling (do).
Susan Moellers has served on the Board of Chartered Professional Accounts - Ontario since 2008.
