The Dog (and Cat) Days of Summer are here: Adopt a Pet for $25 at the Mega Pet Adoption Weekend Proudly Sponsored by PetSmart Charities® of Canada and PetSmart®, July 4-6, 2014
TORONTO, June 25, 2014 /CNW/ - The dog (and cat) days of summer are here. Adopt a dog or cat at the Mega Pet Adoption Weekend, taking place July 4-6 at the Queen Elizabeth Building at the Exhibition Place in Toronto. For $25 you can bring home a new family member that will be spayed or neutered and vaccinated; note standard licensing fees apply to City of Toronto residents.
This event is the first of its kind in Canada, and is hosted by the Toronto Humane Society and Toronto Animal Services and proudly sponsored by PetSmart Charities® of Canada and PetSmart®.
With animal welfare organizations participating from across the Greater Toronto area, this weekend long event will allow people to meet with hundreds of friendly, lovable dogs and cats with an adoption goal of 350. Whether it's a clever kitten or a playful puppy, you will have the opportunity to meet the available pets, chat with experts and take home your new best friend the same day.
"Adopting a new companion is a rewarding decision, one that will bring a lot of joy and create memories to last a lifetime," said John DeFranco, president, PetSmart Charities of Canada. "Through partnerships, such as those with the Toronto Humane Society and Toronto Animal Services, we're able to find forever homes for even more pets."
PetSmart Charities of Canada will reward all participating animal welfare organizations. Each organization will receive $35 in grants for every pet adopted during the event.
"Each year more than 15,000 animals enter GTA shelters. During these three days we hope to find 350 of them new forever homes. Anyone who is considering adding a pet to their family should join us and see for themselves the amazing animals available for adoption," said Barbara Steinhoff, Executive Director, Toronto Humane Society.
"Partnership initiatives such as this create a stronger impact for homeless animals in our community. The City of Toronto is very excited to participate in this great event," said Elizabeth Glibbery, Manager, Toronto Animal Services.
