The Dog (and Cat) Days of Summer are here: Adopt a Pet for $25 at the Mega Pet Adoption Weekend Proudly Sponsored by PetSmart Charities™ of Canada and PetSmart®, June 5-7, 2015
TORONTO, May 26, 2015 /CNW/ - The dog (and cat) days of summer are finally here. Adopt a dog or cat at the Mega Pet Adoption Weekend, taking place June 5-7 at the Queen Elizabeth Building at Exhibition Place in Toronto. For $25 you can bring home a new family member that will be spayed or neutered and vaccinated. Standard pet licensing fees apply to City of Toronto residents.
In its second year, this event is hosted by the Toronto Humane Society and Toronto Animal Services and is proudly sponsored by PetSmart Charities of Canada and PetSmart.
With animal welfare organizations participating from across the Greater Toronto area, this weekend long event will allow people to meet with hundreds of friendly, lovable dogs and cats with an adoption goal of 600. Whether it's a clever kitten or a playful puppy, you will have the opportunity to meet the available pets, chat with experts and take home your new best friend the same day.
"Adopting a new companion is a rewarding decision, one that will bring a lot of joy and create memories to last a lifetime," said John DeFranco, President, PetSmart Charities of Canada. "Last year, we saw overwhelming success and found homes for more than 585 pets -- we hope to continue that same success this year to find even more lifelong homes for deserving pets."
"Each year more than 15,000 animals enter GTA shelters. During these three days we hope to find 600 of them new forever homes. Anyone who is considering adding a pet to their family should join us and see for themselves the amazing animals available for adoption," said Barbara Steinhoff, Executive Director, Toronto Humane Society.
"Initiatives such as this have a large impact on the homeless animal population in our community. The City of Toronto is very excited to partner and co-host this great event for a second year," said Elizabeth Glibbery, Manager, Toronto Animal Services.
