The elephant in Victor park in Rouyn-Noranda has been repaired and brought up to standard, to the delight of families in the Abitibi-Temiscamingue region Français
Government of Canada provides over $68,000 funding to support this community project
ROUYN-NORANDA, QC, Sept. 18, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
With the help of $68,568 in Government of Canada funding for the Association des amis du parc Victor, Rouyn-Noranda families will have access to a renovated module in the form of an elephant in the iconic water play area in Victor park.
The funding was announced today by David Lametti, Member of Parliament for LaSalle–Émard–Verdun and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), the Honourable Navdeep Bains, for the re-opening of this important recreational infrastructure for Rouyn-Noranda families.
Specifically, the Government of Canada funding was used to acquire the water play module and install the aquatic components and concrete slabs, as well as to carry out plumbing, electrical and site-development work. The funding will allow Rouyn-Noranda families to benefit from a modernized water play module, the Victor park elephant, which has been amusing kids and adults alike since 1964.
This investment was made through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), a $300M fund set up to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary by investing in community spaces that bring Canadians together.
Quotes
"This investment targets a community building project to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary. And what better way to mark this milestone than by celebrating the places that bring us together—the places that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours. That's how we establish the bonds of common understanding and friendship in a country where people come from every corner of the world. The values of openness, diversity and inclusion that define all Canadians are forged in our community spaces."
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED
"I am delighted with CED's funding for the Association des amis du parc Victor. The funding provides a definite boost to the municipality's recreational development. During my recent visit to Rouyn-Noranda, I had a chance to witness first-hand the energy and commitment of the people of this region."
David Lametti, MP for LaSalle–Émard–Verdun and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development
"We at Les Amis du parc Victor are proud to witness the realization of this project involving the installation of a new water play module in the form of a 'water elephant' in the park, and we are sincerely grateful for our partners' support.
Since 1964, an elephant (slide) has been watching over the park. The new 'water elephant' broadens the park's vocation, while allowing us to carry on this tradition. Special thanks go out to CED, under its Canada 150 Program, and to the City of Rouyn-Noranda, our two main project partners."
Bertrand Boucher, President, Association des amis du parc Victor (Les Amis du parc Victor)
