The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation receives an award from The Portrait Society of America Français
MONTRÉAL, April 15, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation is very proud to announce that it has been awarded the 2016 Excellence in Fine Art Education Award by The Portrait Society of America.
The award will be presented to the Foundation this Saturday evening, April 16, at the Society's annual conference, in Washington D.C.
The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation was created in Montreal, in 1955, to provide financial assistance to emerging artists who work in a figurative or representational style of painting, drawing, sculpture or printmaking.
Since it was established, the Foundation has awarded more than C$19,000,000 in grants to some 1,660 artists worldwide. Grants vary between $15,000 and $18,000 and are intended for students and artists in the early or developmental stage of their career.
"We are deeply honoured to have been chosen as this year's recipient of such a prestigious award. This award is one of the highest honours conferred by the Society" stated Ms. Claudette Bellemare, the President of the Foundation. "Previous recipients include the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, National Academy of Design, Lyme Academy, Florence Academy of Art, Rockwell Museum, The Barnes Foundation and New York Academy of Art. It is a great honour to be in the company of such distinguished institutions."
"The Foundation would not exist today were it not for the vision of a Montreal lawyer, Charles Glass Greenshields, and his commitment to fund and support the education, training and development of artists in the traditional means of artistic expression" added Ms. Bellemare.
"At a time of widespread cutbacks in government funding of the arts, the Foundation's mission remains more important than ever. We look forward to supporting an ever growing number of talented students and artists, in Canada and abroad, in the future" concluded Ms. Bellemare.
The Foundation does not provide funding for the pursuit of abstract or non-objective art.
