The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited commemorates James L. McIntyre with new building signage unveiling Français
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON, May 17, 2017 /CNW/ - The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) today unveiled the new Service Building located on the Canadian plaza at the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge to the memory of James L. McIntyre.
Mr. McIntyre was a long-standing Chair of the Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority and the Chair of the St. Mary's River Bridge Company, formerly a subsidiary of The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited. He passed away unexpectedly in February 2015.
A true visionary of the international bridge's great importance to the twin communities of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and Michigan as well as to Canada and the United States, he ensured the continuity of his passion and profound sense of commitment to civic duty.
"Mr. McIntyre was an extraordinary mentor who provided inspiration to me and the entire FBCL team. He epitomized what it means to be a great Canadian. He taught us about the legacy of the international bridge, its history, its foundation, its components, but most importantly about the long-standing partnership which exists at the Sault Ste. Marie international border", said Micheline Dubé, President and Chief Executive Officer at FBCL.
The James L. McIntyre building is located adjacent to Carmen's Way. Every single traveler across the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge, northbound or southbound, has a clear view of this building. It is the first Canadian building viewed as one enters Canada and the last one seen as you cross the international bridge into the United States.
The Canadian Bridge Plaza Redevelopment Project under construction in Sault Ste. Marie represents an investment of $51.6 million and is funded by the federal Gateways and Border Crossings Fund. Currently, three of the four buildings within the complex are completed and operational. Through exhaustive planning efforts, FBCL has ensured no interruptions to international bridge operations during construction. The completion of the entire project is expected in just over a year.
