The FNEC officially opens the fifth edition of its Inter-school Games for First Nations of Quebec Français
LONGUEUIL, QC, May 31, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The First Nations Education Council (FNEC) is proud to officially open the fifth edition of its Inter-school Games for First Nations of Quebec. This year the Games are being held at Collège Édouard-Montpetit in Longueuil, from May 31 to June 3, 2012. The goals of the Inter-school Games are to enable First Nations students to experience challenges and promote healthy living. This year, over 500 participants from various communities will be participating in events including volleyball, basketball, floor hockey as well as track and field.
"The popularity of the Inter-school Games among youth in our communities is obvious. The Games have become an incentive for First Nations youth. We are extremely proud to see the number of registrations grow year after year," stated Ghislain Picard, Chief of the Assembly of the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador. He also added "This activity is even more important to them, since, despite lobbying done by the FNEC towards the federal government, First Nations schools still do not receive specific funding for sports and recreation."
Many other activities are also scheduled throughout the weekend. To see the complete schedule, visit www.inter-schoolgames.com.
