MONTRÉAL, Oct. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - The former premier of Québec Jean Charest, his wife Michèle Dionne, and his family wish to express their deepest condolences to the wife of Paul Desmarais Sr., Jacqueline Desmarais, and her family.
"An influential figure in the Québec and Canadian business community, Mr. Desmarais was a model and an inspiration for several generations of business people," stated Mr. Charest, now a partner with the law firm McCarthy Tétrault. "He played an active part in the development of our society and he left an exceptional legacy to his community, particularly through his philanthropy."
"Paul Desmarais was known and respected internationally," Mr. Charest added. "He was a real ambassador for Québec and Canada. His story and his career made him a leader of his century and his generation."
Mr. Charest learned of Mr. Desmarais' death while travelling to Hong Kong for a business trip and nonetheless wished to issue this statement.
