The Fraser Institute withdraws its study at the AQRP's behest: A call for accuracy in the public debate on pensions

QUÉBEC, Sept. 27, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Association québécoise des retraité(e)s des secteurs public et parapublic (AQRP) has been successful in its call for the Fraser Institute to withdraw a study on Canadian public sector pension plans that was released yesterday. The study underestimated the funding of Québec's public sector pension plans by $45 billion. The AQRP believes that this prompt reaction by the Fraser Institute was the right thing to do under the circumstances.

"To withdraw a study of this magnitude is a very unusual step. This event should serve as a warning to all players involved in the pension plan debate. We all have a duty to get the facts right, to avoid misleading Canadians and Quebecers," declared Mrs. Lyne Parent, President of the AQRP.

The Fraser Institute is an independent Canadian organization that presents itself as a leader in the field of research on public policy.

The AQRP is the main independent association of government pensioners in Quebec. It is noted for its sustained citizen engagement on issues that affect seniors and pensioners.
