MONTREAL, Nov. 1, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - On October 25, The Gazette unveiled two websites: the re-launch of WestIslandGazette.com and the brand new OffIslandGazette.com. Through an attention-grabbing outdoor promotional event, the daily newspaper reaffirmed its wish to serve the growing West Island and Off Island communities by offering the best in local news delivered by a team of seasoned journalists. A video showcasing the creativity that went into launching the new platforms in their target communities is now available at http://westislandgazette.com and http://offislandgazette.com
The two sites illustrate The Gazette's commitment to providing readers with local news that matter to them specifically. In recent years, land occupancy rates in West Island municipalities and Vaudreuil-Hudson area communities jumped from 5 % to 28 %1. Occupancy in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges area alone rose 15.7% between 2006 and 2001. The Gazette has been covering these Greater Montreal communities for years, but the newspaper felt it was time to specialize further and provide each of these areas with a product reflecting their own distinct identities. The two Internet sites provide West Island and OffIsland readers with the highly localized news they seek.
"I started my career covering the West Island in the mid-seventies with the Montreal Star. At The Gazette, we've been covering the West Island and Off Island communities for years, but it was time for an expansion and separate identity. We want to cover relevant stories for these two communities, but more importantly provide a central point where they can exchange information and ideas," said Alan Allnutt, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Gazette.
A recipient of numerous journalism awards, the daily newspaper The Gazette is determined to live up to the many honours it has proudly earned while rolling out a host of new avant-garde strategies to stay at the forefront of the fast-changing newspaper industry.
