The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, will announce funding for 41 recipient organizations to support local festivals across Metro Vancouver
VANCOUVER, April 23, 2019 /CNW/ - The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, today announced investments totalling more than $1.6 million to support local festivals and performing arts series across the Greater Vancouver area.
These investments will benefit 41 arts, culture and heritage organizations, including the Vancouver International Writers Festival Society, the Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver and the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society. See the attached backgrounder for more details.
Funding has been provided through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, the Canada Arts Presentation Fund (CAPF) and the Creative Export Envelope of the CAPF.
Investments announced as part of Budget 2019 will allow Canadians and people around the world to see, hear and appreciate Canada's talented and diverse artists, and will bring festivals and performing arts series to more communities across the country.
Quotes
"Our government is committed to supporting arts and culture. Our creators and artists play a significant role in reinforcing social unity and identity, generating jobs and economic growth, and improving the cultural life of Canadians. Festivals and live performances extend beyond delivering entertainment. They provide us with the chance to also discover local artists and productions."
—The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism
"The Vancouver Writers Fest has greatly benefitted from ongoing support from Canadian Heritage through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund. Funding enables our organization to deliver high-quality programming year round and outreach that connects people—young, old and from all walks of life—to exceptional books, ideas and dialogue, igniting a passion for words and the world around us."
—Ms. Nicole Nozick, Executive Director, Vancouver International Writers Festival Society
Quick Facts
The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program increases opportunities for local artists, artisans, heritage performers or specialists, and cultural carriers to be involved in their community through festivals, events and projects.
The Canada Arts Presentation Fund provides financial assistance to organizations that professionally present arts festivals or performing arts series (arts presenters) and organizations that offer support to arts presenters.
The Creative Export Envelope facilitates strategic investments for international presenters to participate in Canadian festivals and performing arts events in order to expose them to Canada's artists. This funding also supports the reciprocal participation of Canadian arts presenters at international events.
In 2018, the Government of Canada introduced the Creative Export Strategy to promote Canada's creative industries by strengthening Canada's presence in global markets and to contribute to Canada's economic growth, job creation and prosperity. The Strategy is divided into three pillars, which include providing additional funding through existing programs, such as the Creative Export Envelope through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund.
