OTTAWA, Nov. 6, 2017 /CNW/ - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will visit Fredericton and 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown as part of her first official visit to New Brunswick on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
During this visit, Her Excellency will have the opportunity to meet with provincial officials including the Lieutenant Governor and the Premier. In addition, Her Excellency will address members of the Legislative Assembly and meet with members of the Canadian Armed Forces. In the evening, the Governor General will attend a reception in celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary with members of the Order of New Brunswick. This will be Her Excellency's first provincial visit since becoming governor general.
Below is Her Excellency's detailed itinerary:

Meeting with the Lieutenant Governor
Upon arrival in Fredericton, the Governor General will meet with Their Honours the Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick, and Mr. Ronald Vienneau.

Official Welcoming Ceremony
The Governor General will be officially welcomed to New Brunswick by Their Honours the Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick, and Mr. Ronald Vienneau; the Honourable Brian Gallant, Premier of New Brunswick; and the Honourable Chris Collins, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Governor General will receive military honours, including a 100-person guard of honour, the Vice Regal Salute and a 21-gun salute from The 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, and The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School. Visit to the University of New Brunswick
At the University of New Brunswick, the Governor General will tour the Institute of Biomedical Engineering's innovative prosthetics labs. After the tour, Her Excellency will engage in a discussion on research and collaboration with various stakeholders.
The Institute of Biomedical Engineering is a research institute at the University of New Brunswick. The Institute's mandate is to further education, research and community service in biomedical engineering. For more information, visit www.unb.ca.

Visit to 5th Canadian Division Support Base (5 CDSB) Gagetown
The Governor General will visit 5 CDSB Gagetown where she will meet with and extend her support to the troops and their families. Her Excellency will be welcomed to the base by Brigadier-General Derek Macaulay, Commander, 5th Canadian Division, and by a military display. Her Excellency will then board a LAV 6 to travel to the 403 Helicopter Operational Training Squadron. Later, Her Excellency will visit the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering and the Gagetown Military Family Resource Centre.
5 CDSB Gagetown was officially opened in 1958 as a training facility. With 1 100 square kilometres of training area, it is the second-largest military base in Canada and the largest training facility in eastern Canada.
