SAINT-LAURENT, QC, Oct. 29, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Friday, October 26, Saint-Laurent residents began celebrating Halloween, along with the Borough's elected officials, on Promenade Decelles. The event was organized by the Borough, in collaboration with La Pépinière Espaces collectifs, as part of the temporary installations along Rue Decelles, between Boulevard Décarie and Avenue Sainte-Croix, within Ville de Montréal's Shared and Pedestrian Streets Program.
The evening began with a jazz concert by Paisley & Sunshine—a duo of Montréal students Julia Warren on saxophone and Chloe Edwards playing electric bass. Julia has already had the honour of presenting her own compositions at this year's Montréal International Jazz Festival, while Chloe describes herself as a poet with a classical education, which she is currently completing at Vanier College.
During this musical introduction, the La Pépinière Espaces collectifs organization held a Halloween-themed workshop on the ABC's of silkscreen printing. As for VertCité, a Saint-Laurent sustainable development organization, it conducted an educational workshop on producing seeds for wild plants.
Shortly after, the children were captivated by Question to Mother Earth, a tale presented to them by Mireya Bayancela, an Ecuadorian storyteller, and her instrumentalist, Saulo Olmedo Evans.
The wreathe-creating booth set up by the Atelier végétal company, also proved to be a great success, according to the children who proudly wore their wreathes on their head during the rest of the event. Interested residents took the opportunity to learn basic biological notions about flowers and conifers before creating natural wreaths using locally grown plants.
Of course, the fresh fall breeze is not the only one sweeping through Saint-Laurent at this time: a real creative force has moved into Promenade Decelles to face the Halloween demons that are on their way!
