TORONTO, Oct. 20, 2015 /CNW/ - The epic television event THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES is coming exclusively to MTV in Canada, Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 10 p.m. ET, with a special two-hour premiere. Based on the sweeping, best-selling fantasy book series by Terry Brooks, the 10-episode, one-hour series, is set thousands of years in the future, and follows three heroes, Elf-Human hybrid Wil, Elvin Princess Amberle, and Human Rover Eretria, as they embark on a quest to stop an evil Demon army from destroying the world.

THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES stars genre favourites, John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings) as King Eventine, and Manu Bennett (SPARTACUS) as Allanon, along with young Hollywood stars, Austin Butler (THE CARRIE DIARIES) as Wil Ohmsford, Poppy Drayton (WHEN CALLS THE HEART) as Amberle, and Ivana Baquero (Pan's Labyrinth) as Eretria.

Filmed in New Zealand, THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES is produced by MTV with Sonar Entertainment. The series is written and executive produced by SMALLVILLE creators Al Gough and Miles Millar. Jon Favreau (Iron Man), author Terry Brooks, and Dan Farah (ALTER EGOS) also serve as executive producers. The first two episodes were directed by Jonathan Liebesman (TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES).
