OTTAWA, May 1, 2015 /CNW/ - The Humanitarian Coalition and its member agencies are pleased to announce that as of today we have raised a total of $2.6 Million for relief efforts in Nepal.
Because our member agencies have been working with local partners on the ground for decades, they were able to respond quickly following the widespread destruction. They have started to provide a range of emergency items and services, such as shelters, blankets, clean water and sanitation supplies, water storage units, food, medical aid, baby kits, and other essentials. Children and pregnant women are particularly vulnerable in the aftermath of natural disasters. Special attention is therefore given to their nutrition needs and to protection measures.
The Humanitarian Coalition launched its joint appeal on April 25th. Together, with the generous support of Canadians, we are responding and remain committed to helping the people of Nepal through the relief and recovery phases.
Canadians who want to help can go to www.together.ca The Government of Canada will match individual Nepal donations until May 25th.
The Humanitarian Coalition is Canada's only joint appeal mechanism for international disasters and emergencies. It is made up of five leading humanitarian agencies: CARE Canada, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam-Québec, Plan Canada, and Save the Children Canada. Collectively, they are present in 120 countries. Together, saving more lives. www.together.ca
