The IESO Lifts Public Appeal for Reduced Electricity Use in Toronto
TORONTO, July 12, 2013 /CNW/ - The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has lifted the public appeal requesting that Toronto consumers reduce their electricity consumption. The public appeal was issued Tuesday morning in response to severe flooding that damaged and made unavailable major transmission facilities serving the City of Toronto.
Power has been restored to Toronto Hydro and ongoing repairs to the transmission facilities have stabilized Toronto's electricity system.
"The efforts of consumers and businesses who answered to the call to conserve electricity helped reduce the strain on the system over the past three days," said Bruce Campbell, President and CEO of the IESO. "Those efforts are very much appreciated."
The IESO is responsible for managing the reliability of Ontario's bulk electricity system and operating the wholesale electricity market. For more information, visit www.ieso.ca.
