This major museological event will take place in October 2012 at the CCA
MONTREAL, April 11, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Manon Blanchette, Chair of the International Committee for Audiovisual and New Technologies of Image and Sound (AVICOM), is pleased to announce that AVICOM's next annual meeting will take place from October 9 to 12, 2012, coinciding with FIAMP, in Montreal, Quebec.
Presented in collaboration with the Board of Montreal Museum Directors, the AVICOM Conference will be held at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA). Its theme: The Development of New Technologies and the Emergence of New Museological Professions. The event will call upon such high-calibre partners as Moment Factory, a Montreal-based firm known for its spectacular multimedia shows for such artists as Céline Dion and Madonna, as well as Sid Lee, one of the world's top five advertising agencies in 2011, which will help to conceive the modern image of the museum that the Conference wishes to convey.
This international event includes two days of conferences given by specialists in information technology, which are open to public debate. Also scheduled is the awarding of the FIAMP prizes for the best audiovisual and multimedia productions created by or for museums.
Manon Blanchette is confident the event will showcase Montreal's museological expertise and encourage an exchange of knowledge and experiences: "I am delighted that AVICOM's Board of Directors, whose members come from various Asian and European countries, agreed to hold this important annual event in Montreal. Well known for their vibrancy, innovation and top-notch public relations, Montreal museums will have the opportunity to demonstrate their experience and learn from that of their colleagues. Thanks to the support of financial partners who believe, as I do, that the future of museums depends on effective communication strategies, the Conference will allow us to take stock of the situation, to see what is being done elsewhere, and to assess the impact of technologies on the way we approach and interact with the public, both inside and outside the museum."
Guest of honour
No less a figure than Jon Ippolito will launch the proceedings. An artist, new media theorist and former curator at the Guggenheim Museum, Jon Ippolito is a regular contributor to The Washington Post and such periodicals as Artforum and Léonardo. He is also an Associate Professor in New Media at the University of Maine. In collaboration with Richard Rinehart and MIT, Jon Ippolito will soon release a new book entitled New Media and Social Memory.
