The International Federation of Sport Climbing chooses Québec City for its 2017 Plenary Assembly Français
QUÉBEC CITY, March 31, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Québec City is proud to welcome the annual Plenary Assembly of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) in March 2017. The city will be the first in North America to host this gathering of the international competitive climbing community's most senior executives. In meeting in Québec City, the gateway to North America, the heads of the 83 IFCS member federations, representing more than 60 countries, hope to develop this region where sport climbing is showing great growth.
The news was confirmed on March 14 in Baden, Switzerland, in response to the city's application presented by Marc Magny, the Québec City Business Destination's delegate for international sports conventions, and Maria Izquierdo, Québec City's event ambassador, Climbing Escalade Canada's (CEC) president, and the IFSC Pan-American Council's secretary general. The executive board voted unanimously in favour of Québec City as the location of the 2017 Plenary Assembly. Tehran, Iran, which was also put forward as a host city, will welcome the 2016 edition.
"The International Federation of Sport Climbing executive board appreciated the quality of the presentation and praised the bid book that was submitted," Maria Izquierdo said. "And I would like to draw attention to the wonderful cooperation of the various City and meeting stakeholders in preparing this application, as well as the professionalism with which everything was coordinated."
IFSC plenary assemblies, which bring some 200 people together, usually take place in a hotel situated in the heart of a city's attractions. In Québec City, Hôtel Château Laurier Québec and the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac were suggested to host the event, if its current format is maintained. However, the organizing committee, which is made up of representatives of Quebec's climbing and mountaineering federation, Fédération québécoise de la montagne et de l'escalade (FQME), and Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC), is nurturing bigger ambitions for the Québec City edition. It hopes to suggest a more exciting platform to the Federation.
