The JUNO Effect: CTV's 2012 JUNO AWARDS Broadcast Increases Album and Digital Sales for Performers and Winners

TORONTO, April 12, 2012 /CNW/ - The excitement generated by THE 2012 JUNO AWARDS broadcast on CTV sent fans to their local music stores and online retailers to support both emerging and established talent, just-released data from Nielsen SoundScan reveals. Known as "The JUNO Effect," this wave of enthusiasm has increased album and digital downloads for nearly all performers and winners on THE 2012 JUNO AWARDS broadcast.
Since the broadcast on CTV, sales of Artist of the Year recipient Feist's latest album Metals have doubled, while digital track sales for performers Blue Rodeo, City and Colour, deadmau5, Feist and Simple Plan all rose by more than 50% over the previous week.
"The JUNO Effect" occurs each year in the hours and days immediately following THE JUNO Awards broadcast when fans support their favourite Canadian artists with purchases of their albums and singles. Data from Nielsen SoundScan confirms significant sales spikes in the week after the broadcast for the following performers and winners:
Album Sales:
- City and Colour - up 57%
- Feist - up 100%
- Lights - up 60%
- Dan Mangan - up 52%
Digital Track Sales:
- Blue Rodeo - "Lost Together" - up 79%
- City and Colour - "The Grand Optimist" - up 104%
- deadmau5 - "Raise Your Weapon" - up 65%
- Feist - "The Bad In Each Other" - up 97%
- Hedley - "One Life" - up 23%
- Nickelback - "This Means War" - up 45%
- Simple Plan - "Summer Paradise" - up 182%
