KINGSEY FALLS, QC, March 21, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Les Affaires and Trebora Conseil awarded its Green CEO Hommage award to Cascades founders Bernard, Laurent and Alain Lemaire.
The mission of the Green CEO awards is to shine a spotlight on the initiative and exemplary contribution of leaders in small, medium and large businesses and crown corporations in promoting sustainable development in their business practices. The judges also confer a Green CEO Hommage award on a well-known leader for lifetime achievement. Since the brothers work closely together, the judges named all three as recipients of the award this year.
"We are very pleased to receive this honour. Cascades has held on to its integrity. Over time, the company has evolved and changed, but we have always managed to remain true to our fundamental values despite the profound changes occurring in the world. Fifty years ago, we were always somewhat hesitant to explain the origins of the raw materials used to make our products. Using recycled fibres was frowned upon. Today, many consumers seek out our products specifically because of the fact that they contain recycled fibres. I am proud of what we have accomplished at Cascades so far, and what I find very exciting is that there is still so much to do," says Laurent Lemaire, co-founder of Cascades.
Along with the panel of judges, who voted unanimously in favour of the three pioneers of sustainable development, Steven Guilbeault of Équiterre, Georges Kobrynsky, member of the Cascades Board of Directors, and Mario Plourde, Chief Operating Officer at Cascades, paid tribute to the dedication and the outstanding legacy of the Lemaire brothers. They described the company as a multinational with a human touch that actively seeks to reduce its environmental footprint and that has had a profound influence on the entire recovery and recycling movement, as well as the marketing of environmentally friendly products in North America.
Cascades extends its congratulations to all the recipients and finalists of the 2013 Green CEO awards.
Founded in 1964, Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products that are composed mainly of recycled fibres. Cascades employs more than 12 000 men and women, who work in over a hundred modern and versatile production units in North America and Europe. With its management philosophy, close to half a century of experience in recycling, and continuous efforts in research and development as driving forces, Cascades continues to deliver the innovative products that customers have come to rely on. Cascades' shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CAS.
