MONTREAL, Dec. 4, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Some 400 members of the Montreal business community gathered on November 27 at Bonsecours Market for the annual Mayor's Ball, the Rendez-Vous of Montreal Inc.
During the event, the winner of the TELUS Montreal Inc. of Tomorrow Award was selected and the award was presented to Guillaume Lacroix of Novothermic Technologies and his team as the most remarkable company among all the Foundation laureates over the last 12 months. The other two candidates were Dîner en Blanc International and LobbyFriend.
Following a brief presentation by each of the finalists, the winner selected by those in attendance was Novothermic Technologies, a company that has developed a smart water preheater that allows restaurants to significantly reduce their energy consumption and their environmental footprint.
Madeleine Paquin, Honorary Chair of the event and President and CEO of Logistec Corporation, pointed out the importance of supporting entrepreneurship: "More than ever before, young entrepreneurs must be provided with their share of encouragement, because they are the ones who are building the Montreal of Tomorrow".
As stated by Andrew Molson, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation: "It's very inspiring to witness the way the businesses we support grow and generate jobs and prosperity. It motivates us to do more and it is thanks to the support of the Montreal business community that we're able to do so".
This annual fundraising event organized by the Foundation allowed to raise over $125,000, which will be invested in young and promising Montreal entrepreneurs through business start-up grants.
Every year, following a rigorous selection process, the Foundation welcomes some thirty new businesses that are particularly remarkable through the excellence of their business plan, the potential they offer in terms of job creation, of outreach and the quality of their entrepreneurial team.
Over the last 16 years, the Foundation has awarded $5.2 million in grants to foster the start-up of 766 businesses in Montreal, which have, in turn, created over 2,275 jobs. The Foundation has indeed contributed to the creation of investments of over $43 million in the city.
